London’s most expensive sandwiches

A list of London’s most expensive sandwiches was published this week. As the champion of low-cost lunch hacks, the big numbers made WICH really confused  – so we tried to break down the capital’s most expensive eats and see what else you could be using the money for down here on planet normal…

£25 – Lobster roll at Hawksmoor

  • You could buy 8 supermarket meal deals at the standard price of £3; that’s lunch every day for nearly two working weeks.
  • 3 meal deals (panini, can of drink and chips) at WICH favourite Coco Café with £4.30 left to spare .
  • Or you could treat yourself to a private capsule on the London Eye, without pre-booking.

£27.96 – Prawn roll at Harrods burger bar

  • 9 meal deals at £3 and have 96p spare .
  • 4 days of bagel and juice at Freshbake Bagel with £3.96 left over to slum it with a meal deal on day 5 of your working week.
  • Alternatively, you could get yourself over to the Emirates Stadium on November 30th for Arsenal’s EFL Trophy tie against Southampton. With tickets going for £20, you could see the game and have nearly £8 for half-time snacks!

£32 – Lobster club sandwich at the Ritz

  • A supermarket meal deal, every working day, for a fortnight, with £2 left over. Or a meal deal for each of the 10 peckish celebs on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here
  • 6 outings to Exmouth market’s German BBQ for spit roast hog wrap and a drink.
  • Or a short hop to Paris or Brussels on the Eurostar with £3 left over!

£70 – Duck club sandwich at Tartufi and Friends

  • You could buy Prime Minister Theresa May and every member of her cabinet a meal deal at £3 and have enough to treat yourself to one too!
  • 2 tickets to see Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre in Covent Garden .
  • A return flight to Dusseldorf. We’ve never been, but it’s nice, apparently.
  • You could eat at Coco Café every working day for a fortnight, sticking to their meal deal option.
